You May Need Mold Remediation If You Can Answer “Yes” to These Questions

8/6/2019 (Permalink)

Did you recently experience water damage? Mold can begin to grow in as little as 48 hours after your Elk Grove home or business experiences water damage. This is why it is so important to begin mitigation and remediation as soon as possible. If the leak has gone unnoticed for awhile, you may be looking at a larger mold infestation. However, you don’t necessarily need to have experienced water damage for mold to start growing in your home. Humid or damp conditions along with stagnant air will likely lead to the growth of mold colonies as well.

Is there a musty odor? Have you ever left laundry in the washing machine so long that it smells a little funky once you finally take it out? The same smell may be coming from mold growing in your house. Again, if your home wasn’t recently affected by water damage, the likely cause is a humid or damp environment, which the mold thrives in.

Have you noticed green or black spots? These spots may appear on the wall, in cabinets, under sinks, behind appliances such as refrigerators or washing machines, in shower stalls or bathtubs – pretty much anywhere! Because, given that the conditions are right, mold will grow virtually anywhere. If these spots seemed to appear overnight, or if they appear to be growing or spreading, you have mold growing in your home.

Are you experiencing any health effects? A good indication that there is “unacceptable fungal ecology” within a building envelope is that occupants feel health symptoms when spending extended periods of time in a certain space and feel much better when spending extended periods of time outside that space. If residents in a home or employees in a workplace experience congestion, allergy symptoms, headaches, fatigue or respiratory problems after each night’s sleep or after the end of each work day, this may be an indication of unhealthy air quality.

One environmental hazard to cause unhealthy air quality is a mold infestation. If one spends a week on vacation away from work and home and all symptoms disappear, perhaps the home, school or workplace has unacceptable fungal ecology or unhealthy indoor air quality.

If you can answer "yes" to these three of these four questions, you may be in need of mold remediation services. SERVPRO of Elk Grove / Laguna is here to help - give us a call! (916) 525-1241
