There are obvious signs such as a pool of water on a floor or drips running down an internal wall. Visible signs of leaks are your cue to call us straight away – We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster. However, there are some hidden signs of water damage to look for, too. Watch out for these, and you could save yourself a lot of time and expense.
Water stains – if there is a rusted looking stain on your ceiling, there might be a leak. Check out your ceilings regularly for stains or water marks.
Peeling wallpaper or raised paint – a leak behind a wall often causes wallpaper to peel away from the surface, and it might also create raised lines or spots in the paint.
Swollen wood – water causes wood to swell. SERVPRO finds that for some of our customers, the first sign of a leak is a swollen wooden door or cabinet.
Wet patches without a spill – if you notice damp patches in your carpet or on your wood or tile floors, pay attention. Sometimes a wet patch simply means a spill that no one told you about, but sometimes it means a leak.
Dark grout on tile floors – water damage causes the grout to get wet and even grow mold, which results in darker coloration. Keep an eye on tiled floors, especially around the toilet, tub, dishwasher, or in the laundry room.
When you notice one of these signs of hidden water damage, SERVPRO is on hand to help remedy the situation. We carry out a thorough assessment of your home, including the use of moisture meters and probes to test for moisture inside walls, behind cabinetry, and under floors. Our IICRC-certified technicians are equipped with extraction wands, pumps, dehumidifiers and air movers to handle the moisture and restore your home quickly.
